8 Days was a game in production by SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) up until earlier this year. When SCEE officially ended this game without even giving it a proper chance. In June this year Sony made the announcement that 8 Days was cancelled. Apparently the main reason for this was due to the game lacking any sort of online mode. A lot of PS3 owners were disappointed (including me) by this decision. 8 Days look absolutely amazing, even if we had only seen a trailer which was more than likely all pre-rendered. It had already convinced me to purchase a copy.
If an online component really meant that much to SCEE couldn't they just have delayed the game a while and added some sort of online function? Did the game even need an online mode? Well, I don't think it would have needed one, if Sony were to include one it could have been great. If you take a look at Jim Jagger's demo reel that was recently released. It contains real-time footage of 8 Days, it looks as if it may very well have been an Army of Two type game. Or something very similar. You may also realise how fucking good this game looked and it wasn't complete. The animation is superb and the game just looks stunning.
So why did Sony go ahead and axe this game instead of just delaying it? I guess we won't know unless they tell us something. I really hope Sony come to their senses and decide to pick this game up again. It could be an amazing title, let's just hope they realise this.
